Rise of a new world order

Published 08 July 2025

“We are looking at the emergence, the birthing, of a new world order. The old one hasn’t fallen apart quite yet, but it’s looking a bit rocky,” says Andrew Staples, Founder of GeoPol Asia.

Watch the webinar:

We are witnessing the emergence of a multipolar world, with power dispersed among the US, China, India, the EU, and the Global South, replacing the unipolar, US-led order that shaped earlier phases of globalization. Global trade is shifting from efficient, integrated supply chains toward fragmented, regionalized networks prioritizing resilience and economic security. Geopolitical tensions and geo-economic tools such as tariffs and export controls increasingly drive trade patterns. Populism and nationalist policies are fuelling protectionism, trade friction, and the pursuit of strategic independence in critical minerals, technology, and supply chains—raising the risk of conflict. The race to dominate next-generation technologies and set rules for AI and digital governance will be pivotal in shaping the future global economy and geopolitical balance.
